Montblanc Homage to Henri Matisse
Montblanc Homage to Henri Matisse
Throughout history, great artists have expressed the human experience in a universal language of form and beauty. The Montblanc Masters of Art Collection pays tribute to their eternal contribution to the pursuit of perfection in art: a quest that Montblanc has always promoted and celebrated. Henri Matisse is a pivotal figure in the twentieth-century art scene, whose revolutionary approach to artistic means of expression helped define the style of modern art. Paying respectful homage to the pioneering work of this illustrious French artist, Montblanc has created Masters of Art Homage to Henri Matisse Limited Edition 4810. Inspired by Matisse's vibrant use of colour, the edition stands out for its blue and white lacquer and platinum finish, which refer to his iconic Nu bleu III. What at first glance seems an abstract game of white and blue is transformed, rotating the writing instrument, to reveal a female figure. The generously rounded, almost sculptural, shape of the cap is a nod to the pronounced curves of many of Matisse's sculptures, reflecting his combination of techniques and different means of expression. While the top of the blue precious resin cap that surrounds the Montblanc emblem made of white precious resin, the decorative pattern on the platinum-coated cone borrows a botanical motif: the elliptical shapes resemble flower petals whose variety of colours and shapes were an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Matisse. The handcrafted nib in rhodium-coated Au 750 solid gold combines nature and art, embossed with two botanical elements that recall La Gerbe while the intertwined letters 'H' and 'm' symbolise the great innovator of the modernist era. The unusual organic shape of the white lacquered clip is inspired by the multicoloured arrangement of leaf-like shapes in Matisse's decoupage, La Gerbe.
